About Melissa Critchley
You’re very good at what you do. The right people can’t find you.
I design websites for established small businesses across the UK, and I get them found on Google and in AI overviews.

The problem I usually get called about
Most people get in touch saying a version of the same thing:
“We used to get enquiries from Google, and then one day we didn’t.”
Or: “Someone looked us up before a meeting and I wanted to apologise for what they found.”
Their business itself is fine. Better than fine, usually. It’s the website that’s fallen behind.
It was built eight years ago, or built by a friend as a favour, or built by you at eleven at night with instructions perched on your knee. It doesn’t sound like you any more, and it doesn’t show up in Google or AI overviews when the right customer is searching.
So the work still comes, but it comes from people who already know your name. Which is lovely. But it isn’t a long-term plan.
This is what I’d tell you on a call. A good-looking website needs copy that engages the reader, and a sound technical build with keyword and competitor research behind it. Most of the sites I’m sent are strong on one of those and weak on the other.
About me
I’m Melissa. I’m based in Ludlow, Shropshire, and my clients are all over the UK, from a nanny agency in London to a shutter company in Sussex. All the work is done remotely and has been for years, so where you are makes no difference to what I can do for you.
I’ve spent over twenty years in marketing and the last eight building WordPress sites. More than sixty of them so far.
I studied decorative art and design at Sotheby’s Institute before any of this, which is probably why I can’t leave a site looking like a template. And I taught digital marketing for the Just a Card campaign, which taught me more about explaining things plainly than anything else I’ve done.
The London nanny agency came to me invisible in search. Four months after my SEO work they had 25 to 30 per cent more clients.
I’ll tell you the truth clearly, including when the answer is that you don’t need what I’m selling.
Twenty years in marketing, eight of them building WordPress websites, and 48 five-star Google reviews from the small business owners I have worked with.
Three steps
How it works
01
Book a call.
Half an hour, no charge. I look at what you’ve got now and tell you what’s standing in the way of people finding you.
02
Get a plan and a price in writing.
What I’ll build, how long it’ll take, what it costs. No open-ended bills and no contract you can’t get out of.
03
I build it, you get found.
You write the words, because nobody knows your customers better than you do. I optimise them, design around them, and hand the site over with enough training that you can update it yourself. If writing them is the bit that frightens you, my guide walks you through it page by page.

Small business websites
From £4,000
This is the main thing I do and most of my clients are here. Six pages and up, with competitor research and a keyword strategy underneath the whole site rather than sprinkled over the top of it. Galleries, booking, whatever the business actually runs on. It’s built to hold its position in search for years, not for the month after launch.
If you would like me to stay on after launch, there are two ways to keep me on.
Small business websitesThe first 30 days
From £5,500 · website build included
For businesses whose customers come from a town or region. I stay for a month and put your Google profile and directory listings right.
The first 90 days
From £7,750 · website build included
For owners who will not have time for the follow-up. I stay for three months. Your customers' questions are answered on your pages, your email list is started, and your Google profile gets a new post every week.
See The first 90 daysYou’ll have the exact number in writing before you commit to anything, and it won’t move afterwards unless you ask for something we didn’t plan for. Payment is staged: a 50% non-refundable deposit, then two further payments of 25%. You will see the exact schedule in your proposal before you commit to anything.
What changes
Leave your website as it is and next year looks like this year. The enquiries keep arriving from people who already know you, the site keeps under-selling the business, and you never find out about the work you didn’t win.
Sort it and the right people start finding you on their own. The website finally matches the standard of the work, so you send the link without thinking twice about it. And you get back to doing the thing you started the business to do.
