Why it matters
Why your website needs looking after
Like the software on your phone or laptop, WordPress needs updating regularly. New versions of WordPress, and of the theme and plugins your site is built with, come out all the time. Now and then one update clashes with something already running and breaks the site.
Skipping updates leaves your site open to hackers and slows it down. But you have clients to look after, social posts to write and everything else that comes with being your own boss, so website maintenance is rarely top of the list.
Without regular care, sites run into the same problems: outdated plugins that slow things down or stop working, security holes that put your site and your customers' data at risk, and slow pages that send visitors elsewhere.

What clients say
“My website was hosted with one of the big names. In one year it was hacked and taken over by an Australian online casino, then six months later taken off the internet by an error on their part, which caused my Pinterest traffic to drop over 27% overnight. I would not be without Melissa's management plan. In short, I sleep at night because of it. It is so important to have a human at the end of the phone I can talk to about technical stuff, who is absolutely capable of doing the work. Melissa is that person and I would not hesitate to recommend her.”

Hosting
Can I use my own hosting?
No. I only build websites that I also host. Most of the businesses I work with don't have an IT team or hosting experience, and I can't troubleshoot problems on hosting I don't manage. I ask clients to stay on the plan for at least the first two years after launch.
If you decide to go it alone after that, give me 30 days' notice. No awkward conversations and no strings attached. When you leave:
- You'll get a website owner's manual explaining which updates your site needs and how often (usually weekly).
- Any premium themes or plugins I've set up for you, including Divi, Kadence or Elementor, will need buying separately.
- If something breaks, I can try to fix it at my hourly rate of £125, but I can't guarantee to get it back to how it was.
Questions
Care plan questions
What happens if my website is hacked?
Keeping your site updated and backed up makes a hack less likely, but nothing is foolproof, and no hosting company can promise 100% uptime. If it happens, the first step is rolling your site back to an earlier backup. Sometimes I'll put up a maintenance message while I restore your files. I'm a one-person business, not a 24/7 team, so I'll respond as quickly as I can, but it may not be instant. Every situation is different, and some fixes take longer than others.
Is the care plan optional?
No. Every website I build comes with the care plan, because an unmaintained WordPress site is a security and performance risk. You can see how it fits into the full cost on my pricing page.
What if I need more than 15 minutes of changes?
Just ask. You can book more of my time whenever you need it, and I'll tell you what it will cost before I start.
Can I leave the plan?
Yes, after the first two years. Give me 30 days' notice and I'll hand everything over with a website owner's manual.
