SMALL BUSINESS WEBSITE DESIGN
Professional, SEO-led WordPress websites for established small businesses across the UK.
Based in Ludlow, Shropshire.
Your business has grown up. Your website needs to catch up.
You’ve been in business for a good few years. You’ve probably had one or two websites already – a DIY build, a favour from a friend, or an agency that did an “okay” job at the time.
But now:
You’re not sure if your website is actually doing anything for your business
Enquiries are patchy – or they’re from people who can’t really afford you
You’re wary of spending money on another website without knowing how to judge if it’s working
You don’t want something flashy for the sake of it. You want a website that:
Attracts the right people
Brings in better quality enquiries
Supports a more profitable, sustainable business
That’s exactly what this service is designed to do.
“Since my new website went live, I’ve had regualr enquiries from new customers. It’s highlighted the difference between having a website, and having an SEO-optimised website! Lynda, Pepper Social
Website design for small businesses, in plain English
I design and build bespoke WordPress websites (or in Shopify if you need ecommerce) for established small business owners across the UK who are ready for a site that finally pulls its weight.
Every small business website is:
Strategy-led – we start with your business goals, ideal clients and offers
Built for conversion – clear structure, calls to action and user journeys that make sense
Optimised for search – technical SEO, keyword research and on-page optimisation baked in from day one
Easy to update – you stay in control of your content, with support when you need it
No confusing jargon and no disappearing acts once the site goes live.
Who is this for:
You’ve been in business a few years now,
You’ve already had at least one website and know its limitations
You’re ready to invest in a site that’s built properly, with SEO and conversion in mind
You want to work collaboratively with someone who will take time to understand your business
And I am particularly suited for websites for:
Professional services
Home and property services
Creative businesses
Hospitality, travel and retreat-style offers

I work UK-wide from my base in Ludlow, Shropshire.
What small business owners often tell me before we start
Most of my clients arrive with some variation of:
“I’m not sure what my website is supposed to be doing – or how to tell if it’s working.”
“We get enquiries, but not from the kind of clients who can actually afford us.”
“Our last agency ghosted us and now we’re stuck with a site we can’t change.”
“I don’t want to run everything myself, but I do want to be able to make small updates.”
“I’m worried about spending this money and not getting value from it.”
These are all completely valid concerns. The whole point of my service is to remove those question marks and give you a website that is clearly aligned with your business goals – and set up so you can actually measure its performance.
How I work (and what makes this different)
1. Collaborative, supported – but led by strategy
We start with a strategy call over Zoom, digging into:
- What you sell and to whom
- Where you sit in your market
- Who your ideal clients are
- What “a successful website” would look like for you
I ask a lot of questions and listen carefully. Many clients tell me this is the first time anyone has really taken time to understand their business before talking about design.
You will need to provide content – copy, images and any other key details – but you won’t be left to figure it out alone. I guide you through what’s needed and when.

2. Built with SEO and conversions from the ground up
I don’t build websites without search engine optimisation. It’s not an add-on; it’s part of the foundations.
For every project I:
- Carry out competitor AND keyword research
- Plan your site structure and page hierarchy with SEO in mind
- Optimise page titles, headings, meta descriptions and content
- Connect Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console so we can track performance
This means your new site is not only more findable, but more likely to turn visitors into leads and clients.
3. Websites you can actually live with
I work in WordPress using builders such as Elementor, Kadence or Divi, depending on what best suits your project. For e-commerce, I use Shopify.
My priorities are:
Clean, uncluttered design that feels on-brand and easy to navigate
Responsive layouts that work beautifully on desktop, tablet and mobile
A structure that makes it straightforward for you (or someone on your team) to make small edits later
You won’t be locked out of your own website or forced to come back to me for every tiny change.
4. Measurable, long-term asset – not a pretty brochure
Because we connect your analytics and set clear goals upfront, you’ll be able to see:
- Where your traffic is coming from
- Which pages people are engaging with
- How often they take meaningful actions (call, enquire, book, buy)
This is how we can talk about value for money with real numbers, not guesswork.

- 25% when the site is ready and before it goes live
Your final investment depends on:
- number of pages and complexity
- whether you need ecommerce functionality
- content support (copywriting, photography, brand work)
- integrations (booking systems, memberships, CRMs, course platforms)
- the depth of SEO research required (local areas, multiple services, competitive markets)
There are no hidden costs. Anything outside the agreed scope is discussed and priced in advance.

How long will your website design project take?
Most projects take around 6–8 weeks, depending on the size and complexity of your site and how quickly content is provided.
The process usually looks like this:
- Enquiry and free call
We talk through your business, what you need from your website and whether this service is right for you. - Proposal and booking
You receive a written proposal outlining scope, investment and timescales. Once you’re happy, you sign the proposal, contract and terms of business. - Deposit and onboarding
You pay your 50% non-refundable deposit and we confirm your project start date. I share what I need from you (copy, images, logins, etc.). - Strategy and research
We hold your strategy call, then I complete competitor and keyword research and plan the site map. - Design and build
I create the design and build your site in WordPress, keeping you in the loop and asking for feedback at agreed stages. - Testing, SEO checks and launch
We test across devices, complete on-page SEO, connect GA4 and Search Console, and then launch. - Training and handover
I walk you through how to use your site, make day-to-day edits and understand your data. Ongoing management and hosting plans are available if you’d like continued support.

FAQs
What factors affect the cost of website design?
Costs vary based on design complexity, functionality, the amount of content, required plugins and integrations, timeframes, and how much SEO research is needed. Ecommerce and booking systems can also add complexity.
Importantly – a replacement website will cost more than a new website due to the time and skill it takes to ensure the SEO ‘juice’ your old site has achieved is moved over and applied also to the new site. If this is not done, in the game of Google snakes and ladders, you will be down the longest snake and back to 0.
Can you host and manage my website for me?
Yes — and I only build websites for clients who also host with me, so I can keep your site secure, updated and supported properly. You can read more about my website management services HERE.
Can you help me purchase a domain name?
Absolutely. For .co.uk addresses, expect to pay around £18 per year. I can also organise .com, .io and other extensions.
How long does it take to build a website?
Most projects are 6–8 weeks. Smaller service sites can be quicker if content is ready. Ecommerce is typically longer due to product setup and testing.
Is there a limit to how many pages I can commission?
No — everything is bespoke. We’ll agree scope and priorities, then build what your business needs (without padding or pointless pages).
Do you build in Shopify?
Yes — Shopify ecommerce builds start in January 2026.
Can you explain more about SEO?
Yes. I also have a helpful blog post on the site: “Why Your Website Needs to be SEO Friendly”.
When is your next availability?
As of Christmas 2025 I have one slot available in Mid February, one mid March and one early April.
